The Dock, the handy application launcher strip that spans the bottom of the OS X desktop, comes pre-populated with a number of Apple applications. You can also easily add your own. In fact, it's so easy to add applications to the Dock that it can quickly get overcrowded. When that happens, it's time to do a little pruning.
Gone in a Puff of Smoke
- Quit the application, if it is currently running, before you remove it from the Dock.
- Click and drag the application's icon to the desktop, and then release the mouse button. The application's icon will disappear from the Dock, which will reclaim the space the icon used to occupy.
Dont worry about your application going up in a puff of smoke. Only the representation of the application (its Dock icon) was obliterated. The application is still available in its original location (most likely the Applications folder), ready for you to use again. You can also add it to the Dock again at any time.
