Sharing Files on Your Mac Network in OS X 10.4

Set Up File Sharing for Your Mac Network

By Tom Nelson, About.com

Sharing files with other Macs on a home network is a straightforward process that's easy to set up. A few mouse clicks, and you're off and sharing.

Enable File Sharing

  1. Click the 'System Preferences' icon in the Dock.

  2. Click the 'Sharing' icon in the Internet & Network section of the System Preferences window.

  3. Place a check mark in the 'Personal File Sharing' box. A message will appear, telling you that File Sharing is starting up. After a short time, the message will change to 'Personal File Sharing On.'

  4. Close the Sharing window.

That’s all it takes to enable file sharing among the Mac users on a local network in OS X 10.4.
